AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING WOMEN SCIENTISTS
The annual awards ceremony for outstanding women scientists was held at the NY Academy of Sciences on Tuesday April 25th, 2006. This year the honorees included two chemists Sr. Mary Maier and Prof. Karen Goldberg. Nearly 60 attended the event, including about 15 students (a mix of precollege, undergrad, grad and postdocs)
As has been our practice for the past several years, the event was co-sponsored by the New York and North Jersey Sections of the ACS, (MWCC) and the Women Investigator’s Network (WIN) of the New York Academy of Sciences. The organizing group was the Metropolitan New York Chapter of the Association for Women in Science (Metro AWIS). Direct and indirect costs are shared by the three organizations.
It’s worth noting that over the year, past
awardees including Jeanette Brown, Sue Fahrenholtz and Val Kuck have gone
on to win awards from National ACS and all of them have noted the importance
of the local award in strengthening their ACS award applications.
TALK ON RESUME WRITING
In addition, Valerie Kuck gave a
talk on techniques for writing effective resumes at a December 4th 2006
joint networking meeting for working chemists and College of St. Elizabeth
Student Affiliates. The meeting was attended by an estimated 30 to 35
and pictures may be found in the February 2007 issue of Indicator.
Respectfully submitted,
