David Cormode received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Oxford University in 2002.
In 2006 he gained his PhD in chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Paul D. Beer at Oxford
University. From 2006 he held a postdoctoral fellowship investigating nanoparticles as MR and
CT contrast agents in the laboratory of Zahi A. Fayad at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
This research is supported by fellowships from the American Heart Association and the NIH
(K99/R00 fellowship). Since February 2009 he has been the chair of the New York ACS section
Young Chemist's Committee.
Brendan Kelly: Position: Director
Email
Brendan Kelly is a fifth-year graduate student in Tristan Lambert's research group at Columbia
University where he is exploring aromatic ions and their potential to effect new synthetic
transformations. At Columbia, he is the chairperson for the Columbia Chemistry Careers Committee
and chemistry representative for the Graduate Student Advisory Council. He received his
undergraduate degree from Ursinus College where he majored in both Chemistry and
Biochemistry/Molecular Biology. Before starting his graduate studies, he worked as a
Chemist in the Pharmaceutical Research & Development group at Merck's West Point site.
Ruben M. Savizky: Position: Director
Email
Ruben Savizky received his B.E. in chemical
engineering from The Cooper Union in 1998, an M.S. in chemistry in 2000 and a Ph.D. in
biophysical chemistry in 2005, both from Yale University. He is currently an assistant
professor in the chemistry department at The Cooper Union. In addition he has been an
instructor at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, New York University, the Polytechnic
Institute of NYU, and Columbia University. His research interests include synthesis of
guanidine based HIV inhibitors, thermodynamic studies of RNA folding, and spectroscopic
analysis of metalloproteins.
I-C Sandy Chen: Position: Director Email
I-C Sandy Chen is currently a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Medicinal Chemistry in
the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions at Saint John's University. As a 4th year
doctoral fellow, she works in Dr. S. William Zito's laboratory with an interest in type 2
diabetic research and also teaches undergraduate laboratory courses. She also received her M.S.
in Medicinal Chemistry from Saint John's, studying the antiplatelet activity of Ayurvedic plants. As an active graduate student, she is currently the Treasurer of the Graduate Student
Association.
Elizabeth Onufrey: Position: Director Email
Elizabeth received her undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Hartford in 2007. Since 2008, Elizabeth has been working at Forest Research Institute, a subsidiary of Forest Laboratories, where she is an analytical chemist in pharmaceutical research and development.
